CanGOLF was created by Golf Commentator Luke Elvy to provide golf year-round to the Bow Valley, but golf simulators were just one part of the idea. Elvy wanted to create a fun place for people to play indoors through the long winters and have an all-inclusive entertainment venue with a Best of the Bow Food & Drinks menu.
Thus, Finchy’s Bar + Grill @ CanGOLF was born (Finchy’s was named after major champion & golf analyst Ian Baker-Finch, Luke’s great friend & mentor). As VP of media for aboutGOLF, I knew their simulators were elite because they challenge the good player while providing fun games like mini-putt, chipping & ball-striking games for non-golfers. AG sims offer something fun for families and locals to do indoors. They’ve also allowed golfer to remain in the groove through winter via our popular Leagues!”
Golf boomed throughout the pandemic & simulators are the best and easiest way to learn the game as they take away the five main barriers for people trying the sport – access, ability, time, cost & weather. But simply exposing people to Luke’s passion was not enough. “Having a top-quality F&B offering was critical to its success. Dallas Suttie, a 20yr Executive Chef/GM, coming on board in the startup phase was fantastic for the business and that’s already shown with a few “Best of the Bow” awards – including Best Burger, great salads & service – in our 1st year of being open” he said!
Another major piece was the events space upstairs, which is massive, measuring over 5,000sq ft and includes a south facing patio. “There are very few spaces in Canmore where people can host parties, events or functions as most are used for the thriving wedding business, so by exposing the stunning Canadian Rockies with ceiling to floor windows & a patio, people can rent the space for any type of event they like. We recently hosted the popular Canmore Uncorked festival and others have used it for weddings & rehearsal dinners and hockey tournaments. We can accommodate up to 200 people up there” Elvy adds.
With a big screen for live sports or presentations and a handful of arcade & interactive games, the space was enormously popular to teams visiting town for minor hockey tournaments, plus corporate events, parties & functions. Knowing the team at CanGOLF caters the best tasting, best value food in Canmore it’s fast becoming the hot spot in town.
Despite a number of options to experience Canmore best entertainment venue, Finchy’s Bar & CanGOLF’s main objective is offer indoor fun in Canmore after people have explored the great outdoors. “What’s better than sitting on a patio eating & drinking award winning food while gazing at these majestic mountains knowing you were just playing amongst them? It’s the stuff we all want to experience more of,” Elvy exclaimed!
Finchy’s Bar + Grill @CanGOLF is Canmore’s best place to eat, drink & play. It’s open 7 days a week and also won “Best Bang for your Buck” & “Best Place to Play Indoors” in the 2022 Best of the Bow awards via Rocky Mountain Outlook.
